Why are Muslims ignoring Sudan... Seriously.

Sudan is worse than we thought. Two heavily armed factions are swallowing the country whole, and it has become the world's largest humanitarian crisis. Yet much of the Muslim world has looked away. In this episode of Muslim Atlas, we explore how Sudan fell, and what it would take to fix it. This isn't just a story of two generals fighting over power. How did General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, go from partners after the fall of Omar al-Bashir to enemies turning Khartoum into a battlefield? How did the Rapid Support Forces grow strong enough to take on the national army? And why, after the Sudanese people overthrew Abboud in 1964, Nimeiri in 1985 and Bashir in 2019, does military rule keep returning? Sudan is a blood-stained mirror of the deepest flaws in the modern Muslim world. We trace the root causes behind its collapse: tolerating injustice until it happens to us, confusing order with stability, removing tyrants but not their systems, weaponising identity and Asabiyyah, power without accountability, dependence on foreign powers, and confusing power with justice. Finally, we ask what resistance that produces lasting justice actually looks like: institutions, not individuals, Islamic principles above every ruler, justice for all and not a few, and real accountability. The tyranny survived the tyrants in Sudan. It is not enough to hate oppression when it reaches us. We must build societies where oppression itself becomes structurally difficult.
