The Cyber Expert Warning Muslims About Pegasus

Your phone knows where you go, who you speak to, and what you search at 2am. In this Expert Q&A, cybersecurity specialist Ahmed Khanji explains who wants that data, how they get it, and what you can do to protect yourself. From Pegasus, the military grade spyware that sits on a phone without leaving a visible trace, to new police powers in New South Wales to extract data from your device, to data brokers feeding companies like Palantir, how exposed are we really? Can deleted messages be recovered? Is your phone listening to you? And what happens to everything you tell AI chatbots? At the end of the episode, we hand Ahmed a phone and ask him to check it for spyware. Ahmed Khanji is the Chief Executive Officer of Gridware, a Sydney-based specialist cybersecurity firm founded in 2017. Gridware provides penetration testing, digital forensics and incident response, managed security, and cyber advisory to organisations across Australia, and was named SIEM Provider of the Year at the 2025 Australian Cybersecurity Awards. Having worked on more than a thousand cyber attacks, Ahmed brings a frontline view of how criminals, corporations, and governments access personal data.
