How Muslims Spread Lies Without Even Realizing It | Khutbah By Nouman Ali Khan

In this Khutbah Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan walks through the rumor that flooded Madinah about the family of the Prophet ﷺ and what Allah revealed about it in Surah Nur: إِنَّ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِالْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِّنكُمْ (24:11). He unpacks two words. The first is ifk, which describes something turned completely upside down. It is the way a small piece of information gets reshaped by our imagination until it becomes something else entirely. The second is ‘usbah, a small, tightly knit group with one agenda, and he shows how the same pattern still drives online propaganda today. Then comes the uncomfortable part. Rumors spread through good people who say “I hope it’s not true” and forward it anyway, and Allah is keeping track of every share. The Quran trains believers to make their first thought the presumption of innocence (24:12). Before you pass on the next thing you hear, ask yourself whether you really have the whole story.
